The feeling at their home stadium was decidedly gloomy during the weekend fixture. Matteo's Unexpected Return
A single player kept smiling through it. Matteo Cancellieri wasn't originally meant to be at Lazio during this campaign. He spent last season on loan at Parma and, at the start of the off-season, his owning club were advocating for him to extend his stay for another season. The registration embargo forced a rethink. They were unable to weaken their team with no new signings.
He signed initially during Sarri's previous tenure, then a 20-year-old graduate of Verona's academy. He recorded 20 matches in the league in Lazio colors in the 2022-23 season, all but one of those as a substitute. Finding His Best Role
Perhaps the manager was continuing to attempt to determine the exact type of Cancellieri's abilities.
